Filipino YouTube singing sensation duo “Rin on the Rox” to appear on Ellen DeGeneres’ show

American stand-up comic Ellen DeGeneres will be featuring another YouTube Filipino talent on her show but this time it’s a duo.
Ellen has invited YouTube sensation, “Rin on the Rox,” who do cover songs inside their bathroom. “Rin on the Rox” is composed of bestfriends 20-year-old Erin Paual (Rin) and 21-year-old Roxanne (Rox) and they are based in California. “Yes, we both are Filipino, but as for Roxanne she’s half-Filipino and half-white,” Erin said.

“Recently, I found these two singers on the internet. These two girls are singing in the bathroom. So they are fantastic. If you are watching right now, please, please come on the show if you are watching. We have a wonderful bathroom here… But seriously, you are great. So please, please come on the show if you would like to,” DeGeneres said in a recent episode of the Ellen show.

YouTube singing sensation Charice Pempengco was also invited by Ellen to appear in her show and has helped catapult her to international fame.

Rin on the Rox

Rin on the Rox is the singing duo of 

best friends Erin "Rin" Perey and 

Roxanne "Rox" Ilano. They first gained 

immense popularity by singing cover 

songs on youtube.com. The producers of 

The Ellen DeGeneres Show soon heard 

about the girls and in January 2009 Ellen played a Rin on the 

Rox clip on her show. Then she made a direct appeal for Erin and 

Roxanne to contact her, which they did. The following week Ellen 

did a spoof of the girls by singing in her own restroom. A week 

after that, Erin and Roxanne appeared on the show and performed 

you guessed it " in Ellen's bathroom! As an added bonus, Ellen also 

surprised the girls with tickets

to the 2009 Grammy Awards. Erin "Rin" Perey is 20 years old, of 

Filipino descent, and was born and 

raised 

in Pasadena, CA. When she was seven 

years old her family moved up to the 

Bay area of northern California. 

Roxanne "Rox" Ilano is 21 years old, of 

Filipino/German descent, and was raised 

mostly with her grandparents in the city of Vallejo in the Bay area 

of northern California. On April 7, 2009, they released their first 

single "Torture."

Rin on the Rox - debut single

The rise of singing sensations Erin "Rin" Perey and Roxanne "Rox" Ilano, known officially as "Rin on the Rox", has been nothing short of meteoric.

After meeting at a high school in California in 2004, it wasn't until 2008 when they started to post covers of their favourite songs on YouTube that they became known. And why not? Everyone else was doing it, and these girls actually had the talent.The fans started requesting their favourite songs, and Erin and Roxanne were more than happy to oblige. 

With hundreds of thousands of channel views, it wasn't long before talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres (The Ellen Show) took notice early in 2009. 

Maybe it was their talent, or maybe it was the quirkiness of them using their bathroom as their studio, but whatever it was, Ellen was so impressed (especially after viewer feedback received by the show), she invited them onto her show in person. This led to singing in the Ellen Show bathroom, as well as a red carpet gig at the Grammys, but it also spawned the brilliant "Ellen Show Bathroom Concert Series".

However, the appearance on the Ellen Show was a two-edged sword. 

Not only did it bring Rin on the Rox many new fans, but also brought them to the attention of the YouTube copyright team. Sadly, and controversially, their channel was removed due to copyright infringement. You can read more about that in the "Rin on the Rox YouTube channel cancelled" article.

But don't worry - it has a very happy ending (or beginning, as the case may be). The girls will soon be releasing a brand new single titled "Torture".

Here's the prediction. This song will chart. No doubt. They already have a HUGE fan base, and the song is as good (if not better than) as any of the covers they have performed. What can I say. We'll be hearing much more from these girls in the coming years - but maybe not so much from their bathroom!
